Clive Grey's 2016 Primary Run for CA US Sentate Seat
This was the website created for Clive Grey's 2016 primary run for the US Senate from California.
Clive Grey was a 2016 independent candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from California. Of his bid for office Grey said he wanted: "[t]o bring common sense and clear thinking back into Washington. To help unite the Democrats and Republicans to work together to improve life for the people they serve. I can no longer stand to only talk about what we the people want and need while our representatives in Washington argue with one another. I feel i must act and believe that the American public will follow if they have leaders that will set the example.
California's U.S. Senate seat was open following the retirement of incumbent Barbara Boxer (D). Thirty-four candidates filed to run to replace Boxer, including seven Democrats, 12 Republicans, and 15 third-party candidates. Two Democrats, Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez, defeated the other 32 candidates to advance to the general election, where Harris ultimately triumphed. The primary took place on June 7, 2016.

"Let's Bring Common Sense to Government"
Born in 1951, Clive was raised in Southern California, where he along with his siblings, helped raise chickens and sell eggs. He learned the value of hard work at a young age through local paper routes and odd jobs. At the age of eighteen he struck out on his own. Clive used his skills in building, contracting, and project management for over thirty years creating several successful businesses.
After years of commitment to his business and community, Clive was struck by cancer and fought the battle of his life to survive. He currently enjoys excellent health and is cancer free.
He also produced, co-wrote, and hosted Pacific Western Workshop, a coast to coast television show.
Clive is the current president of Pivotal Synergy, a business leadership organization, and is the Sergeant at Arms of the Central Coast Communicators Toastmasters. He donates his time, skills, and money to the Pilgrim Place Retirement Community and helps them generate funds to support the less fortunate. Clive worked with the Save Price Canyon Committee where he rediscovered his passion for service to our community.
Clive realizes the need for “Common Sense” in government, and once more has chosen to commit his time, talents, and energy to making a positive impact.

The availability of jobs is a passionate focus of mine and perhaps the most critical one facing our state and nation.
I am a supporter of clean energy. Not only am I a supporter, but I actually walk the walk and don’t just talk the talk.
Campaign Finance Reform
I believe it is time to get the 'big money' out of politics.

Flat Tax With No Exemptions
I propose a flat tax for individuals and businesses alike.

Immigration is another critical issue facing our state and nation.
The availability of jobs is a passionate focus of mine and perhaps the most critical one facing our state and nation. I am an entrepreneur and business man. Small businesses are the backbone of America. Our hardworking Californians need to be recognized and encouraged by the government and not penalized and taxed into leaving. We have fallen far away from this with burdensome bureaucracy and legislation that puts a cog in the wheel of innovation and entrepreneurship. With legislation I will propose, California will become a state that business flocks to and thrives in. This will lead to more jobs and more innovation and start a chain reaction. California has one of the largest economies in the world! We should and can be a state that provides a job to every single person willing to work.
Immigration is another critical issue facing our state and nation. I immigrated from Germany at a very young age. America has given me the opportunities that I would not have had had I not been fortunate enough to become a citizen of such an amazing country. I support a path to citizenship. Becoming a citizen must require regulation and be highly supervised but accessible. Everyone deserves the opportunities that America has to offer if they are willing to work for it.
I am a supporter of clean energy. Not only am I a supporter, but I actually walk the walk and don’t just talk the talk. I promote the use of grey water irrigation systems, and geothermal heating and cooling systems. Also, I promote photovoltaic solar panels, similar to what i have on my own home. We, as Californians, deserve to be breathing fresh air, drinking clean water and have a government that is focused on providing this. Our lives depend on it. When I am Senator, I will work to ensure that every new home or business that is built will be required to use our natural resources in any way possible. It is time for California to live up to its' potential, and be ranked the number one healthiest place to live. When speaking of clean energy, Albert Einstein said, 'We shall need a substantially new way of thinking if humanity is to survive.” We must utilize our desert land for solar farms, use grey water for irrigation, water reclamation and conservation, while being supported by the government. Our planet has provided us all of the resources we need to survive from the beginning of time. Californians, it is time for us to come together to give our children, and their children, a chance to not only survive but to thrive in our beautiful state. I am the candidate that will implement change. Let me be your voice.
Campaign Finance Reform
I believe it is time to get the 'big money' out of politics. I believe we are at a point where candidates and corporations are buying their way into office. As a voter, I believe we have very little influence on which candidates are nominated. Once these candidates are elected, their allegiance is to the corporations and power brokers that financed their campaign, rather than the people they are supposed to represent, the voters. We need to change this system with a stringent campaign finance reform.
Flat Tax with no Exemptions
I propose a flat tax for individuals and businesses alike. This eliminates the confusion around our tax code, and eliminates the need for tax shelters, by requiring each person pay their portion. This has the added benefit of reducing the strain on our tax dollars which are used to support the bloated bureaucracy of the IRS. The ONLY exemption would be for those of us in the lowest income levels.
Prisons as Educational Systems
I propose that the prison systems be converted into educational systems. A stipulation of release would be an education, whether it be in the mechanical trades, a high school diploma, or a college degree. Additionally, under my leadership there would be drug rehab, counseling, and life skill programs in place to help battle repeat offenders and keep people from slipping through the cracks. I will also work to incorporate animal care including farming, mentoring programs, as well as work education within the prison systems. This would help reduce the cost of running the facility as well as the prison system in general.
As there appears to be more lobbyist in Washington than politicians, I propose we eliminate the lobbyists and possibly only allow one lobbyist per non profit organization vetted by the people.
